Our Consultant in Palliative Medicine Dr Lucy Adkinson is based at St John’s Hospice.

Having been in her role since 2015, Dr Lucy plays an integral role within the team and has overall responsibility for medical care in the Hospice Inpatient Unit. She provides clinical advice and expertise both within the hospice environment, and to those providing palliative care within the community. She also provides clinical supervision to trainee doctors and non-medical prescribers.

Lucy said: “I’ve always been fascinated by patients’ stories and experiences.

“Palliative and hospice care is not just for people who are at the very end of their lives, it’s also about managing their symptoms in a holistic and patient centred way, which gives them the best possible quality of life, for as long as possible.”

She added: “It’s a great privilege to really have the time to care for our patients and families, in such a comforting environment, and to work in such a highly skilled team who are dedicated to responding directly to their individual needs.

“We are always learning and developing our specialist skills.”
