Spotlight on our Clinical Team Leader
Clinical Team Leader (Interim) Hanna Bullock works at the heart of our Hospice Team, overseeing the day-to-day management of our nursing, support staff and volunteers to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, effective care for patients and families within our hospice 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Hanna took up a nursing role in the Hospice over nine years ago, and after becoming a sister in 2022, took up her current clinical team leadership role just over 12 months ago.
Hanna said: “Working in a hospice is highly rewarding. Our ethos here is that we only get one chance to get it right, and although it can be a busy environment, it’s a real privilege to be able to give our patients and families the time and care they need, and to know we’ve truly made a difference.
“There are so many extra things we’re able to do to make lasting memories for our patients – we’ve organised hen nights and wedding parties – our work is truly centred around their unique needs.”
She added: “It’s really important that people understand that hospice care isn’t only about people who are dying. We do a lot of symptom management, so patients come in for our support and they then go home again. We’re able to support them with rehabilitation, or manage their symptoms, so that they are better controlled, and they are able to go home for at least a short period of time with a better quality of life and more comfortable because they’ve spent time with us.
“We’re also here to support people who are in their last few weeks of life. We recognise the importance of supporting both the patient and their carer. It’s not about us ‘taking over’, it’s about being there, if and when they need us. We don’t have strict rules about visiting and families can stay overnight with their loved ones if they wish, that’s what makes it such a special place – nothing is too much trouble.
“Our wonderful team are not only supportive of our patients and families, we also care for each other. We have a wide range of knowledge and experience and recognise when someone needs a lift, or a kind word – I’m very proud of what we do!”
