Rock Choir supports St John’s Hospice

A Doncaster choir has presented a Balby based hospice with more than £700 to boost its funds for its services.

Rock Choir from Doncaster performed at St Francis of Assisi Church Hall, Bessacarr for an end of term social event. Friends and family of the choir attended the event called A Frothy Cappuccino and a Piece of Cake. A grand total of £783.26 was raised for St John’s Hospice.

The choir sang a selection of feel-good songs including This is Me from The Greatest Showman, Shut Up and Dance and Hallelujah. Members provided and served tea and homemade cake and held a raffle and tombola. Some of the choir paid a visit to the hospice on Weston Road in Balby recently to hand over the donation.

With nearly 30,000 members nationwide, Rock Choir’s uplifting ethos of fun, friendship and community spirit is a huge part of its attraction. It helps improve people’s self-confidence, gives them new singing skills, a dynamic new social life and a myriad of exciting opportunities.

Kate Threlfall, Rock Choir Leader across Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield city centre, said: “We’ll be working with St John’s Hospice throughout the year and are keen to get involved in anything we can in order to help them. Some members of our choir previously worked for Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH), who run the hospice, and so we decided to support the hospice this year.”

Lindsey Richards, St John’s Hospice Fundraiser, said: “We want to say a massive thank you to all members of Rock Choir for their generous donation and choosing to support us this year, we are very grateful.”

The hospice provides a comforting environment for people with life limiting illnesses and their families. It includes a day hospice where people can come and take part in therapeutic activities to improve their wellbeing. The staff help patients and families to live with their illness.
