Reunion raises cash for hospice

A group of old school friends had a reunion to mark the year the 1980 school year starters celebrated their 50th birthdays – and at the same time raised £1685 for our Doncaster hospice.

Daryl Scothern, together with Paula Bailey, Donna Perkins and Judith King, organised a get-together for ex-pupils that started Edlington Comprehensive between 1977 and 1982 at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium, raising money through ticket sales and a raffle.

Paula, whose grandad died in the hospice, said: “The reunion was brilliant. There were people there that we’d not seen for nearly 35 years.”

The event was also attended by five former teachers, Kevin Spence, Gary Minnit, Anna Pendlebury, Jill Ferguson ad John Oldham.

Daryl added: “We wanted to raise money for a good cause. Everyone attending the reunion was really happy that we were raising money for the local hospice as it has touched most people’s hearts.”

Lindsey Richards, of our hospice, said: “What a great way to raise money. I’m really pleased that the reunion was a huge success and want to thank everyone who attended and bought tickets. Every penny will be spent on making our patients’ lives more comfortable.”
