Hospice bowled over by donation
A big hearted crown green bowler from Firbeck decided to put his best foot forward and run to all the bowling green’s in Doncaster’s league – covering 50 miles over two days.
And the amazing effort led to Les Crownshaw (67) who was supported by Dave Higgins, of Wales village, and financially backed by members of Tickhill Bowling Club, their families, friends and local organisations, to raise £1215 for Doncaster’s St John’s Hospice.
Les explained: “I was sponsored and raised money via collections but all the money is going to a great cause. It all started because one of our members works at the hospice and because many of the bowlers have family or friends who have used the hospice’s services.”
Les, also a member of Killamarsh Kestrels Running Club, added:” I thought it was a novel idea to run around all of the league’s grounds. I received excellent support from all of the clubs involved.”
Maureen Harwood, one of the fund-raisers at St John’s Hospice, said: “What an amazing achievement running 50 miles over two days. I want to thank not only Les but the whole of Tickhill Bowling Club who fully supported him in this venture plus everyone who sponsored him or made a donation. Every penny will be well spent on our patients.”
The hospice is run by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH).
