Doncaster family’s big boost for our hospice

Three members of a Doncaster Family have raised almost £2500 for our hospice by doing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.

Julie, Barry and Wendy Calladine, set a plan to walk the 25 mile slog up three of Yorkshire’s finest peaks in memory of Wendy’s husband Terrance Calladine, who sadly passed away on 27 December 2017 was cared for by St John’s Hospice, Balby.

The team, which has completed the Three Peaks Challenge a whopping 65 times between them, set a goal of completing the walk in 12 hours to raise money for St John’s Hospice. They smashed their target and finished in an admirable 10 hours and 20 minutes.

Wendy said: “I felt exhilarated and on top of the world when we finished, I feel like I now have closure on Terry and it makes me feel so happy knowing we have raised such a good amount for the hospice.”

Barry, who had his 70th Birthday two weeks before the challenge, supported his wife Julie and sister in law Wendy to complete the walk, Barry said: “It was a grueling walk at times, but what pushed us through was knowing it was in memory of my late brother Terry.”

Julie, who found the walk a hard slog and quite scary at times said: “I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated, especially to all the staff and customers from D.Gravel & Sons. We can all relax now knowing the memory of Terry will live on in the donations made.”

Hospice Fundraiser Lindsey Richards, said: “We are very grateful to Julie, Barry and Wendy for supporting us. The funds they have raised will be put towards the care and comfort of those who use our services.”
