Big boost for Doncaster hospice

A Hatfield family has raised more than £2,300 for Doncaster’s hospice to say thank you for the care staff provided to their loved one.

Jeanette Jurgens (54) died earlier this year with breast cancer. Her wish was to be cared for at St John’s Hospice, Balby, where her family say the staff provided excellent care.

Money was raised by Jeanette’s husband Peter, daughter Sam (22) and son Daniel (24) who asked for money in lieu of flowers at the funeral and by fundraising online. The family raised a staggering £2,338.

Sam, whose grandad also died at the hospice several years ago, said:” When mum was at the hospice she was well looked after. Mum received such person centered support.”

Peter added: “We wanted to give the money to where it’s needed and to where we have experienced the service and we couldn’t think of a better place than St John’s Hospice.”

St John’s Hospice Fundraiser Maureen Harwood, said: “We are so grateful for the donation and want to say thank you to everyone who donated and a big thank you to the Jurgens family for thinking of us.”
