£6200-plus boost for hospice

Three Doncaster bank staff have between them raised more than £6,200 to say ‘thank you’ to our Balby-based St John’s Hospice.

Michelle Ward, of Lakeside, Tony Wilson, of Bessecarr, and Fiona Wordsworth, of Warmsworth, who all work at Nat West bank all decided they wanted to raise money for the hospice after loved ones used the service.

Between them they organised a race night at Doncaster Golf Club, which was supported by Nat West, and gained the support of Thorne Rural Lions, which helped to get the cash rolling in.

Michelle then took on the Great North run, raising even more money as she pounded the streets for 13 miles.

The Charities Trust then match funded the race night with a further donation of £1,250 – taking the grand total raised to £6,237.

Michelle said: “My nan used the respite facilities at the hospice six years ago. She loved going there and the staff were amazing. That’s why we wanted to raise money for the hospice to say ‘thank you’ for the service they provide.”

Chris Smith, our St John’s Hospice Community Fundraiser, said: “It was a fantastic night and I want to thank Michelle, Fiona and Tony for this amazing donation and also everyone who supported them to make this happen. Every penny goes towards making our patients’ lives more comfortable.”
