£517 boost for hospice

A Doncaster widower who held an evening of Northern Soul and Tamla Motown in a bid to raise cash for our St John’s Hospice has just handed over £517.

Roger Smith (52) of Bentley, owner of Fencing 4U, raised the cash from ticket sales to the event, a raffle and by selling hospice merchandise on the night at Markham Main Officials Club in Armthorpe.

Roger has also previously donated cash from his partner Cheryl’s funeral to the hospice; replaced the hospice garden fencing, fitting it for free, meaning he donated £750 of his time, he’s also donated cash from a couple of garden parties and from several other events he’s organised.  He’s now raised £6,077 for the Balby-based hospice.

Chris Smith, our St John’s Hospice Fundraising Co-ordinator, said: “Roger is fantastic. He has worked so hard to raise money for our hospice and his latest venture has raised more than £500.  All of the staff want to thank him. Every penny raised goes to make our patients’ lives more comfortable.”
