Walking the height of Everest
John Harrington has signed up to walk the height of Mount Everest throughout this year in a bid to raise funds for our hospice.
John is doing this to say thank you for the way the hospice cared for his dad George, who died in our hospice in 2011. He says the staff did everything they could to give his Dad a comfortable, peaceful and dignified end to his life.
To do the challenge John will be walking up various hills and mountains in England and Wales and recording the routes with a mapping app called Viewranger. The app records walking times, distance travelled and ascent (height) gained. The ascent is the important part, this is what John will be adding together from the walks until he’s reached 8848 metres – the height of Mount Everest.
To put this challenge into perspective, the height of Mount Everest is approximately 9 times higher than England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike.
