Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge for St John’s Hospice

Three members of a Doncaster family will be scaling Yorkshire’s finest peaks in April in an epic three peak fundraising challenge for St John’s Hospice in Balby.

Julie, Barry and Wendy Calladine, who are all experienced mountain walkers, will set off on their hiking challenge on Saturday April 6 in memory of Wendy’s husband Terrance who sadly passed away on 27 December 2017.

The intrepid trio plan to complete their 25 mile walk covering the three mountains of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough within 12 hours.

Wendy said: “We want to show our appreciation to St John’s Hospice for giving Terry such outstanding care and support in his time of need but also to us his family. We can’t thank the staff enough for their compassionate care and everything they do for their patients and their families.

“We don’t know where we would have been without their support; particularly the Counselling Team who made us feel stronger and able to cope with the situation we found ourselves in. It is only when you need to use these services that you realise just how important they are. That’s why we are doing this walk so that others can also benefit from the care that St John’s Hospice offers.”

Hospice Fundraiser Lindsey Richards, said: “We are very grateful to Julie, Barry and Wendy for supporting us. The funds raised will be put towards the care and comfort of those who use our services. I wish them every success in their walk.”
