Teeing off for charity

Golfers in Doncaster are teeing off for charity!

Golfers who are members of Wheatley Golf Club have just launched a year-long fundraiser for our Doncaster’s St John’s Hospice Appeal.

The club will be holding events and collections throughout the year and Men’s Captain Les Phillips kicked off the fundraising efforts recently by raffling off a bottle of whisky and raising £354.

Les said: “We wanted to support a local charity and my sister used to live on Weston Road. I went by the hospice quite often – and I thought why not raise money for the charity appeal as it caters for all ages and is for local people.

“After our recent visit to the hospice we were really impressed as it was so calming and peaceful.”

Chris Smith, the hospice’s Community Fundraiser, said: “It’s fantastic that Wheatley Golf Club members, families and friends are supporting our appeal. Every penny raised will go towards making our patients and their carers lives more comfortable.”
