Marking World Cancer Day

Live in Doncaster and affected by cancer?

If so a special event is being held in Bentley to mark World Cancer Day. World Cancer Day takes place on February 4 – but the event at Bentley Library will take place two days earlier on Thursday, February 2.

The event will run from 10am until 2pm and is being hosted by a range of agencies, including the Living Well Cancer Information Service, which is run by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH).

Joanne O’Marr, RDaSH’s Macmillan Living Well Cancer Information Service Lead, said: “This event is for people living in Doncaster affected by cancer – so patients, carers, family members or anyone with questions or concerns about cancer.

“There will be a range of information available including about benefits, finance, counselling and exercise.”

Lisa Spivey, Macmillan Partnership Quality Lead, said: “This World Cancer Day Macmillan is encouraging people to talk about their experience of cancer.  Dealing with cancer is overwhelming and so it’s crucial that people feel supported and have someone to talk to. Simply being there is often exactly what a person needs.

“We’re urging anyone living with or beyond cancer to attend local events, call the Macmillan Support Line or visit Macmillan’s online community.

“No one in Doncaster should face cancer alone”
